Personal Development Coaching With Arecia Hester

Personal development coaching helps you build self-awareness, confidence, and direction. You work with a coach to name what you want. Then you build the habits that carry you there.

I'm Arecia Hester, a Certified Professional Life Coach in Los Angeles. I coach working women in person across the greater LA area, and by phone or video anywhere. This page covers what personal development coaching is, who it helps, and how I work.

What Is Personal Development Coaching?

Personal development coaching is structured work on your own growth. You meet a coach on a regular schedule. Together you set goals and track real progress. Sessions focus on your habits, your thinking, and your choices.

The work looks forward. We start with where you are today. Then we build toward what you want next.

Research supports the approach. A 2014 meta-analysis in The Journal of Positive Psychology found coaching improved coping, wellbeing, and goal-directed self-regulation.

Who is a Personal Development Coach?

A personal development coach is a trained partner in your growth. She asks the questions that sharpen your thinking. She holds you to the plan you set. She brings structure to goals that still feel vague.

Good coaches won't hand you answers. They help you reach your own. Training matters just as much. Look for a formal credential and a clear code of ethics. I hold a Certified Professional Life Coach credential.

Coaching isn't therapy. I'm a coach, not a clinician. I won't diagnose or treat any condition. Many of my clients see a therapist too. The two support each other well.

Who Benefits From Personal Development Coaching?

Personal development coaching is especially helpful for people who quietly ask themselves, “Is this really it?”

I coach working women across the greater LA area, in person and by video. Many are managers, founders, and creatives. Most are carrying more than they let on. They want a plan and someone to hold the line with them.

I meet you where you are. Some clients arrive with a clear goal. Others arrive knowing only that something needs to shift. Both are fine starting points. If polish and presence are your focus, my image consulting work may suit you better.

Signs Personal Development Coaching Is Right for You

Most people reach out at a turning point. Here's what that usually sounds like.

You feel stuck and can't name why. You keep saying yes when you mean no, so boundaries at work feel out of reach. You second-guess work you know is strong, and self-doubt runs the show. You put everyone else first by habit, because people-pleasing became your default.

A major life transition is coming and you feel unsteady. You've earned your seat and still feel like an imposter. Work keeps asking you to shrink yourself to fit, which many Black women and women of color know well. Or you want direction and a personal development plan you'll actually follow.

Any one of these is a good reason to book a call.

How Personal Development Coaching Works

We start with a free consultation, where you tell me what you're working toward and I walk you through how I coach. You leave that call with enough to decide whether we're a fit.

Sessions run about an hour, and we meet either weekly or every other week. Most engagements last six to twelve months, with a six-month minimum, because the habits we build need repetition before they hold on their own.

Between sessions you'll practice something small and specific, and we review how it went when we meet again. That loop is where the change actually takes hold.

I coach in person across the greater LA area, and I coach by phone or video for clients who prefer it or live further out. Limited Saturday sessions are available, and I keep Sundays free.

Personal Development Coaching for Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color

Many of my clients are women of color. They carry real workplace pressure into our sessions. I coach with cultural awareness and a trauma-informed approach. That means we name the context instead of stepping around it.

You won't need to explain your world first. We can start with what you want to build.

Working with my life coach, Ace has been a truly transformative experience. Before beginning coaching, I felt stuck, with goals but no clear path to achieving them. However, through our sessions, I gained clarity, practical tools, and a renewed sense of confidence. What I value most is the supportive and non-judgmental space she creates. This environment allowed me to dive deeper, challenge old habits, and finally make the changes I had been avoiding for years. As a result, I am now more focused, motivated, and aligned with the life I want to build. In conclusion, getting a life coach was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

FAQs

A personal development coach helps you set goals and reach them. We name what you want, find what's in the way, and build a plan. Then I hold you to it session by session. The work covers confidence, habits, boundaries, and direction.

The two overlap a great deal. Life coaching is the broader umbrella and can touch any area of your life. Personal development coaching narrows the lens to your growth as a person. Think skills, confidence, self-awareness, and follow-through. I use personal development coach because it names the work plainly. My credential reads Certified Professional Life Coach.

Personality development coaching focuses on how you present. Think communication style, poise, and executive presence. You'll see it often in corporate training. Personal development coaching goes underneath presentation, into what drives your choices. Presence usually improves as a result. It simply isn't the starting point.

Yes, and both describe the same role I hold. A personal growth coach emphasizes the journey. A self development coach emphasizes your own effort. A personal development coach emphasizes structure and skill. Choose on substance instead of the title. Ask about training, method, and how they measure progress.

Therapy often looks back and treats clinical conditions. Coaching looks forward and builds skills. I'm a coach, not a clinician, so I won't diagnose or treat anything. Plenty of my clients work with a therapist at the same time.

Most engagements run six to twelve months. I ask for a six-month minimum. We meet weekly or every other week for about an hour. Real habits need time to hold.

My packages range from $150 to $2,000, depending on length and session frequency. Payment plans are available. I also keep a limited number of sliding-scale and scholarship-style spaces open. For context, the International Coaching Federation reports a global average near $234 for a one-hour session.

It's worth it when you're ready to act between sessions. Research links coaching to better coping, wellbeing, and follow-through. Coaching works best when you want change and want support building it.

I coach in person across the greater Los Angeles area. That includes Carson, Compton, Gardena, Hawthorne, El Segundo, and Long Beach. I also coach by phone or video anywhere. Limited Saturday sessions are available.
